Born in Ohio to Italian parents, Sandro’s early career was in opera, studying at the Cleveland Institute of Music and performing at opera houses in the U.S. and Italy. He then attended the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, as well as studies in Rome, Carrara, and Pietra Santa, Italy.

His work has been admired and reviewed in Europe, and he was chosen by the city of Faeince, Italy to create larger-than-life central figures for a ceramic nativity presented to Pope John Paul II in 1984. Also chosen to crate the portrait bust of Dr. William Anlyan, retiring Chancellor of Duke University.
